NYTimes: How Online Hobbyists Can Reaffirm Your Faith in the Internet
I speak of the hobbyist internet. These days, any pastime worth pursuing â pottery, cooking, gardening, quilting, woodworking and beyond â attracts a constellation of blogs, message boards, Facebook groups, Amazon reviewers, Instagram and Etsy influencers, and many hundreds of YouTube stars. Collectively, they form the online social structure around any hobby, a group of…

Sigh
Things that happen in Silicon Valley and also the Soviet Union: – waiting years to receive a car you ordered, to find that it's of poor workmanship and quality – promises of colonizing the solar system while you toil in drudgery day in, day out — Anton Troynikov (@atroyn) July 5, 2018

Gender stereotyping in editing
From ESPN: “We always want to beat each other, whether it’s her trying to kick me out of the top 10 by making a birdie on the last hole or whether it’s me trying to make a couple more birdies so I can win [a new] purse [from her] at the end of the year,”…

An ode to an ex skunk
Under the back porch is apparently where skunks go to part this mortal coil. At first I thought it was just taking a nap, but after a few hours of no movement, we resorted to stick poking with a well thought out escape plan. It wasn’t napping. The smell is just … incredible.

Nine dollars, cart included
Pretty much sums up my impressions of South Carolina: The entire place seemed run with a sort of laissez-faire philosophy: things are the way they are and should remain that way. From: Nine dollars, cart included: On the road to Augusta, a stop in rural South Carolina reminds of golf’s allure

Different Times of Day Reflected Simultaneously Within Breathtaking Views of the NYC Skyline â Laughing Squid
While filming New York Cityâs iconic skyline, Boston photographer Julian Tryba had the unique opportunity to capture the city during different times of the day, which allowed him to create âNYC Layer-Lapseâ, a short timelapse film made from footage that doesnât follow chronological time, but rather splits and layers it within a single scene… This…

A favorite woodworking podcast
I habitually listen to the Wood Talk show. It’s mostly a Q&A show with three guys that run the gamut on modern woodworking. Give it a listen if you want to learn more about woodworking. Here’s a sample to stream into your earholes.
